NY Times Travel Show

I just came back from the NY Times travel show at Javits Center showcasing travel companies, national tourism boards and tourism book publishers with display booths. The Antartica bug remains: I found myself checking out brochures of the companies that offered travel to the icy land. But the goal this year is to trek (Kilimanjaro?) and party in the land of Giraffes, Rhinos, Lions, Elephants, dark nights with, of course, the people of Africa. The challenge is to do it one's way.

Hi 'next blog'. Your last entry about traveling grabbed my attention. I LOVE traveling- experiencing different cultures as if you belong there, not as a tourist. If you are looking for a beautiful place to explore, and very inexpensive, check out Laos. I spent some time there and it was terrific! Our 'guest house' cost about $12 and had 2 big beds in it- as well as a freezing cold pool to cool off in.

Laos: will check it out. Thanks for the tip! Did you do any physically intense hikes?

The trip to Antarctic is amazing, it has been one of my best trips ever, it is so different than any place to ever visited, a desert of ice, the sunsets and sunrises are mind-blowing.
