Lost Offline and Found Online

How do you find your friend from say high school when web searching their name yields nothing? Search engines can help you even when they don't: Just advertise on your friend's name at a popular search engine! Chances are your friend, wherever he/she may be, does "ego" searching of their name. And voila, they should see the ad and contact you. This has worked in practice.

As another example, I left my notebook behind on a flight sometime ago, and have been traumatized with the loss. I wish there is a service we can go online and list/discover found/lost things, authenticate the owners of items, exchange the items.

Interestingly, there is a site www.egosurf.org that ranks your online ego!

Facebook/Orkut is a much more simpler and effective way to find a long lost friend.

Sorry to hear about your notebook.
Was it the one you recently bought?

Craigslist has a Lost and Found section. Do you want to give it a shot?
